Mike Dawson Outstanding Jazz Musician Award

This award has been established by the Dawson family in memory of Mike Dawson (1962-96), Paris High School Class of 1980. The award will be presented annually to a junior or senior jazz band member(s) who best fulfills the criteria listed below.

CRITERIA FOR THE AWARD

COMMITMENT and DEDICATION - The award recipient possesses a desire to succeed and a strong work ethic towards self-improvement as demonstrated through attendance, punctuality, and preparedness for all jazz rehearsals and performances. Additionally, he/she is a contributing and active member of the total band program.

LEADERSHIP - The award recipient possesses a spirit of enthusiasm and cooperation. His/her influence on other musicians through words and actions is always of a very positive nature.

MUSICIANSHIP - The award recipient is more than a competent section player and soloist. He/she has developed a high level of understanding in jazz interpretation which serves to inspire the performance of the total ensemble.

ACADEMICS - The award recipient is a student in good standing, on track for graduation.

The instrumental music staff at Paris High School will provide input in the selection process with the final decision made by the jazz band director.

The recipient's name will be engraved on the Award plaque which will remain and be displayed at Paris High School. The recipient will receive a smaller plaque with his/her name, year, and title of the award suitable for hanging.
