Begin by printing these instructions.
Return to Jazz Listening List page. You'll know you are there if you see "Jazz Listening List" in the (usually) blue title bar at the very top of your browser window.
You are probably looking for:
In all cases you want to find out the CD Title, the Recording Company that sells the CD, and possibly the identification number of the CD.
If you are using Netscape or Microsoft Internet Explorer as your browser, click on "Edit" near the upper left hand corner of your screen and then click on "Find (on this page)" or "Find in Page."
In the little box that pops up next, you will see the words "Find what:" Type in the name of the tune or artist and click on "Find Next."
Keep clicking on "Find Next" until you locate the recording that you're looking for. Note that popular jazz musicians recorded dozens of albums over the years, so you will probably come across Basie's name several times before you find the CD that you want. Additionally, once a jazz tune becomes a "classic", everyone wants to record their own version of it, so you a probably going to find several recordings of "Cottontail" for instance.
If you can't find what you want check your spelling OR try a different spelling. There are several tunes that I've seen published with slightly different titles. For instance:
Now for the really slick part. After you've found what you want, the next step is to find out who has it for sale. Use your mouse and highlight the artist or the CD title. Then right click, and choose "Copy" from the drop down menu.
Now go to one of the music links that is listed at the top of the "Jazz Listening List" page. To enter what you just highlighted, right click in the appropriate field and choose "Paste." Hit the Search button and bingo, you're sure to get some results without having to type a single key. You can go to as many different music sites as you'd like and keep pasting your CD title or artist into each search engine until you find a distributer or the best price.
The Champaign Public Library and the Urbana Free Library have a wide selection of jazz recordings available for loan. They will accept your Paris Public Library card because they are all part of the Lincoln Trail Libraries System. You must pick up the CD in Champaign-Urbana, however, you can return it to our library in Paris. Follow the Lincoln Trail Libraries System Catalog link and then click on "Library Catalog" to enter your search.
