At registration, families who wish to utilize transportation services must confirm that they have reviewed the following code of conduct with their child:

To help ensure the safety of each student, I agree to abide by the rules of behavior on the bus listed below. It is understood that I must conduct myself as a good citizen at all times on the bus and at the bus stop in order to keep the privilege of riding on the bus. I also consent to the use of audio/video tape devices which may be used from time to time to monitor student activity on the bus. By signing below you are agreeing to the District Policies found in the student handbook regarding Transportation, Bus Conduct and Use of Audio-Video Cameras on School Buses.
Instructions to School Bus Riders by the State of Illinois

  1. Be on time at the designated school bus stop; help keep the bus on schedule.

  2. Be careful of approaching the place where the bus stops.Do not move toward the bus until it makes a complete stop.

  3. Do not leave your seat while the bus is in motion.

  4. Be alert to instructions from the driver.

  5. Remain in the bus in the event of a road emergency until the driver gives instructions.

  6. Keep your head and hands inside the bus at all times. Do not throw anything out the bus windows.

  7. Remember that loud talking and laughing or unnecessary confusion divert the driver’s attention and could result in a serious accident.

  8. Be absolutely quiet when approaching and crossing railroad crossings.

  9. No eating is allowed on the bus.

  10. Keep books, packages, coats and all other objects out of the aisles and away from the emergency exits. These items should be placed under the school bus seat while in transit.

  11. Be courteous to fellow pupils and the bus driver. To earn respect, you must first show respect.

  12. Do not ask the bus driver to stop at places other than the regular bus stop. He or she is not permitted to do this except by proper authorization from a school official.

  13. Observe safety precautions at exit points. Know and observe the rules. When it is necessary to cross the street, proceed to a point at least 10 feet in front of the bus. Wait for the signal from the school bus driver permitting you to cross.

  14. REMEMBER: Your safety on the school bus depends on how well you conduct yourself as well as how the driver performs his or her responsibilities. There are consequences for breaking bus- riding rules, and you can lose your bus-riding privileges as a result of breaking the rules.

A: First, check Stopfinder app for any messages, then call Transportation Department at (217) 466-7035.

Q: What if I would like my student picked up/dropped off at daycar or another alternate address?
A: The alternate address must be within the district's area of responsibility. (Your student may be assinged an alternate pick/up or drop/off route, however this must be consistent and can not be assigned to different buses/bus stops on different days of the week. Request for alternate address must be received no later than July 15 for the start of school. Requests received after that date will begin on or after September 15.)

A: Messag in Stopfinder app or call Transportation at (21&) 466-7035.

Q: We live on a cul-de-sac, will the bus come down our street?
A: Buses cannot be routed into a cul-de-sac. Cul-de-sac stops are considered unsafe for the following reasons:
Cul-de-sac stops create blind spots often causing students to enter or exit in a danger zone around the bus (at a corner stop or street curb stop, they enter/ exit outside the danger zone) Different styles and sizes of buses make maneuvering in cul-de-sac difficult. The rear of the bus has potential to swing around close to the sidewalk. Parked cars and other obstacles create road hazards that may not be seen until entering the cul-de-sac and at a point of no return.
Backing up a bus when students are on board is strictly forbidden.
Property damage to mailboxes and landscaping.

Q. Why do some students have to cross the street to board the bus?
A: We are not able to route buses so that all students can board the bus on the door side. We recommend that students wait on the side of the street where they reside. The bus will stop traffic in all directions to accommodate students that need to cross the street. The driver will signal to the students when it is safe to cross.

Q: My student has a dual house due to family circumstances, does the district provide transportation to both residences?
A: In some cases, the school district is able to accomodate a dual household situation, but certain criteria must be met:
The students primary address in the student information system must be eligible for transportation service;
The dual household address must be within the attendance area boundary for the school;
The students dual household address must also be eligible for transportation service;
If all three criteria are met, the school district may be able to accommodate the dual household situation. Not all dual household situations are able to be accommodated. Updates/changes must be sent by July 15. Contact Transportation for further information.

Q: Why is my student’s bus late?
A: Weather, traffic, driver absenteeism, maintenance difficulties and unforeseen incidents are responsible for delays in arrival of school buses. Please know that we do everything possible to have all buses running on schedule each and every day. In the event your bus does not arrive as scheduled, check Stopfinder app or contact Transportation at 217-466-7035. Please allow 10 minutes before calling.

Q: What happens if I miss the bus?
A: If you miss the bus, do not attempt to chase the bus. This can lead to serious injury and drivers are instructed not to stop for students chasing the bus. Students should return back home or back to the school building and let an adult know they missed the bus.

Q: What if I am moving?
A: Contact your school's office and they will take care of updating your information.
