The Academies at PCHS
The Academies at Paris Cooperative High School represent a bold new direction for education, one that considers students’ interest, national need and global demand for highly qualified graduates capable of competing at the most challenging levels. Opening August 2013, the Academy of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM), the Academy of Commerce and Industry, the Academy of Health and Human Services, and the Academy of the Humanities offer concentrated studies in well-defined, career-focused areas directly connected to university majors and workforce need. The Academies at PCHS cultivate emerging professionals who exhibit the knowledge, skill, character and work ethic necessary for success in the marketplace.
Special Diploma Designation
The PCHS Class of 2017 will have the first opportunity to graduate with a special Academy designation on their high school diplomas.
A Career Planning and Course Guide incorporates the Career Clusters into the course selections. These tools are ways for students to group their required courses and electives into a coherent sequence in preparation for college and careers. Utilizing the 16 Career Clusters, students can identify pathways from high school to two- and four-year colleges, graduate school, and/or directly to the workplace. By connection education to future goals, students are motivated to work harder and enroll in more rigorous courses.
The Career Pathways are recommendations only and are not intended to direct students away from areas of interest including art, music, theater/drama, Advanced Placement, career/tech ed., etc. The Career Pathway recommendations are based on the website www.careerclusters.org. PCHS staff members have worked to match identified competencies with curriculum in determining the listings on the pathway pages.
The pathways can be integrated into the four academies in the following way:
Academy of Commerce & Industry
Academy of Health & Human Services
Academy of the Humanities
Academy of Science, Technology, Engineering & Math
